Blog 1- Cathedral

When I first started to read Cathedral, written by Raymond Carver I was not so interested. To begin with I was having a lazy day and seeing that this short story is not so short I did not want to read it. But I need a good grade so I started reading - _- As I was reading I felt a bit lost in all the details that are given in the first paragraph. But as I kept reading I put two and two together and started to get a better view of the story outline. During my reading process, I had a lot of "guesses" in my mind. I thought maybe the blind man and the wife are having an affair or that maybe the blind man is not really blind. But this story takes a toll and teaches us a little bit about life. Those who do not have the ability to see, tend to see more than others.

  1. I completely agree with you about the initial thoughts about the story, I actually wrote something similar in my blog. I really like your speculations about the story, It would've been interesting if the story would've turned out that way. But indeed like you said the overall story did teach us a life long lesson that those who can't see have the ability to see more then those who can :)

  3. haha i agree with not always wanting to read the stories. at first most of them seem boring or pointless but i find each has something cool we can take from them. i think you made a great observation though, in life its always those who have less that appreciate things more or can "see" things better.

  5. Hello Sukhmeet,

I would say, excellent. I like how you explain things in general and your understanding of this story is very credible. I agree to the fact that some people with disability have the ability to do more than an able person. When I read the story, I had a similar opinion about the wife and the blind man. I thought that the wife of the narrator have fallen in love with the blind man for his ability to complement her. It had got me confused as well. At the end of the story, every reader of the story was surprised for the way the story ended and that's creative writing for me. Good Job.
